Add support for a more terse module descriptor format

Proposed by James Netherton this issue could make writing and reading descriptor files easier.

Currently we consider this version 2 format as experimental and unsupported (i.e. use at your own risk). We will decide later which format makes it the the next major version. On the long run we hope to support only one format.
